Fifteen years ago the Bruno Manser Fund initiated a ground-breaking community mapping project. Tribesmen of the Penan were instructed to map their land using GPS-equipment, drones and extensive excursions in an area of roughly 10'000 km2.

After over a decade the project has finally come to a conclusion and the result is impressive: 23 Maps in a scale of 1:35'000 offer an insight into the heart of the Penan rainforest that has never been possible before. The maps allow us to trace the ancient paths of the Penan through the jungle and explore their rich heritage. Culturally important landmarks such as nomadic camps, mountains, rivers, waterfalls and graveyards were meticulously researched and pinpointed. The maps further detail the locations of significant plants such as the poison and blowpipe trees as well as the areas where sago palms can be found.

The very high standard of the maps is due to the adoption of the newest mapping technologies combined with Swiss cartography skills. For the Penan these maps will be important proof of their claims to the land they live on, and which is currently being sold off by the Malaysian government without their consent.

These maps are a treasure trove for everyone who values the art of cartography. Each map is completed with a different Penan legend and the thumbprints of the village leaders of that area to confirm its accuracy.

For each box sold one box goes to the Penan.

Biography of Ruedi Suter (English Edition)

Ruedi Suter's book is much more than simply a biography of Bruno Manser. The author provides a valuable chronicle of the national and world political events that occurred in parallel with Manser's life, places Manser's evolution and politicisation in that context and also critically analyses his political decisions. We are missing Bruno Manser in the struggle for the rights of the planet's indigenous inhabitants. Just how much is brought out clearly in Ruedi Suter's book.

Finally the English edition of "Bruno Manser - Die Stimme des Waldes" by Ruedi Suter is available since Octobre 2015. (First published in German by Verlag Zytglogge, 2005).

Lukas Straumann:
Raid on the rainforest - On the trail of the Malaysian wood mafia (in german)

Some 170 years have gone by since Sarawak came into being as a private kingdom. Today, Sarawak belongs to Malaysia and is ruled with a rod of iron by the despotic Taib Mahmud. Around 90% of the primeval forest has disappeared since he came to power, while the ruler's family has accumulated wealth worth billions and spread it around the globe. It is the country's indigenous inhabitants who have lost out. The author, Lukas Straumann, holds a PhD in history and is today the executive director of the Bruno Manser Fund. Taking the example of the peoples affected, such as the Penan, Southeast Asia's last nomadic hunter-gatherers, he recounts the gripping history of the Borneo rainforest from its discovery by Europeans in the 19th century through to its destruction in the present.

By Lukas Straumann (english translation)

Money Logging investigates what Gordon Brown has called ˜probably the biggest environmental crime of our times” - the massive destruction of the Borneo rainforest by Malaysian loggers. Historian and campaigner Lukas Straumann goes in search not only of the lost forests and the people who used to call them home, but also the network of criminals who have earned billions through illegal timber sales and corruption. Money Logging is a story of a people who have lost their ancient paradise to a wasteland of oil palm plantations, pollution, and corruption, and how they hope to take it back.
